ACC play was highlighted by North Carolina’s comeback win against Virginia. Backup quarterback Mitch Trubisky won the game for the Tar Heels on a 16-yard touchdown pass with 4:05 to play. Recovering the onside kick sealed the deal for the North Carolina victory. Our committee also visited Miami vs. Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech vs. Pittsburgh and Clemson vs. Syracuse.
TCU had a showcase performance Saturday against Texas Tech, scoring the most points in their history in an 82-27 rout of the Red Raiders. Quarterback Trevone Boykin also made history in the win, throwing a school record seven touchdown passes. In other Big 12 action, FCSports scouts visited Kansas State vs. Texas and West Virginia vs. Oklahoma State.
The Ohio State blew a 17-point lead against Penn State to allow the game into double OT. However, quarterback J.T. Barrett scored twice in overtime to help the Buckeyes escape with a 31-24 victory in Happy Valley. In addition to this classic Big Ten matchup, our committee attended Maryland vs. Wisconsin and Rutgers vs. Nebraska.
There was nothing quite like Tiger Stadium Saturday night, as LSU upset No. 1 Ole Miss 10-7. The Tigers intercepted a Bo Wallace pass with just 2 seconds left, clinching the win. Tennessee vs. Alabama, Vanderbilt vs. Missouri, and South Carolina vs. Auburn were also scouted in Week 9.
A lot of ground was covered in Monday morning’s meeting, as Team Selection Committee members finally had the opportunity to ask questions about the new title sponsor to our New Year’s Day game: Buffalo Wild Wings. After the meeting, members were given their first tour of the new stadium, where they witnessed firsthand the extraordinary progress that has been made, including the installation of the final video board.
