Team Selection Committee breaks down Week 10 highlights
With Electric Daisy Carnival descending on Camping World Stadium, Florida Citrus Sports’ team selection committee hit the road for its Week 10 meeting — and brought in special guest Matt Murschel of the Orlando Sentinel for the proceedings.
Phil Zeman and David McLeod opened up the road reports at Dubsdread with a recap of their visit to Tallahassee for Florida State-Miami. And while the result may not have been what the home ‘Noles fans had in mind, the experience was an unforgettable one.
“I’ve been doing this since 2013 and it was the closest as you could have to a perfect scouting trip,” Zeman said. “It was a beautiful fall day, we did the tailgate thing, and the sentiment from the tailgaters all the way to the president was the same, that they’d love to be here.”
Jim Clarke also ran into an excited fan base in Bloomington, where he saw Indiana rout Northwestern for its fourth straight win. With the victory, the Hoosiers improved to 7-2 on the season, however, Indiana still has several challenging dates on the schedule.
“They would love to come to Orlando,” Clarke said of the Indiana faithful. “They still have to play Michigan and Penn State, but it’s not out of the realm of possibility that they could come in our game. Their SID said they have 20 players from the Orlando-Tampa area, including a couple players from Lake Mary High School.”
In the SEC, Rob Rudolph and Scott Nance took in Auburn’s win over Ole Miss and applauded the show the Tigers put on over the weekend.
“We had a wonderful trip,” Rudolph said. “At the tailgates we got a lot of the same responses — when they find out that you’re from Orlando, from the Citrus Bowl, they’re really excited. They haven’t been here since 2006, and I think they see the Citrus Bowl as a viable option.”
After the reports concluded, Murschel took to the stage to discuss the current state of college football and what the first 10 weeks of the season mean for the Camping World Bowl and Vrbo Citrus Bowl. And while it’s too soon to tell who will be bowling in Orlando this postseason, Murschel said this weekend’s Alabama-LSU result will tell us a lot about how the dominoes may fall among the New Year’s Six bowls.
