Florida Citrus Sports Foundation Awarded Disney Helping Kids Shine Grant

Walt Disney World Senior Vice President of Global Sports Enterprises Ken Potrock announced Friday that the Florida Citrus Sports (FCSports) Foundation has been awarded a Disney Helping Kids Shine grant in the amount of $25,000.  The grant, which will go towards FCSports summer camp program for children from low-income families, was presented by Potrock to FCSports officials on Friday morning.

We are so grateful to Disney for investing in the lives of these deserving young people, said Foundation Director Jill Mickle.  The real winners are the kids who will be able to participate in the camp.

The FCSports Foundation was one of just 34 charitable organizations to receive a Helping Kids Shine grant in 2009.  The grant will provide scholarships for children to attend the FCSports Summer Camp at no cost.

The FCSports Summer Camp will take place over two sessions from June 22 July 30, 2009.  It is open to all children between the ages of 10 and 15 who qualify under Orange Countys free or reduced lunch program.  Now entering its 16th year, the FCSports Summer Camp will partner with the Orlando Police Departments G.R.E.A.T. Summer Youth Program in 2009 to continue its mission of teaching boys and girls in Central Florida about Athletics, Academics, Attitude and Achievement.  All camp features, including transportation, meals, field trips and pre-camp physicals, are provided by FCSports at no cost to participating families.  Applications for the 2009 program are now being accepted in person at the FCSports offices (1 Citrus Bowl Place).  For more information, call 407.423.2476.

Disneys Helping Kids Shine Grants is the premier charitable giving program for Walt Disney World Co. and provides funding for organizations or agency programs that focus on four specific ways of helping children: connecting with adults, constructive use of free time, character development, and compassion.  Walt Disney World Co. accepts grant applications from qualified non-profit charitable organizations in the Central Florida defined geographic areas of Lake, Orange, Osceola, Polk and Seminole counties.

Florida Citrus Sports (www.FCSports.com) is a not-for-profit membership organization dedicated to increasing community spirit and pride, promoting tourism, stimulating economic development and ultimately benefiting charities, educational institutions and the quality of life in Central Florida through its four signature events:  The Capital One Bowl, the Champs Sports Bowl, the Orlando Citrus Parade and the OUC Half Marathon and 5K.
