Member Spotlight: Joe Doher
Orlando real estate broker Joe Doher may still be considered a new member to Florida Citrus Sports, having only been a part of the organization for three years. But the non-profit has had a big impact on Doher, and an even bigger impact on the community in which he serves.
“The incredible thing about being part of this organization, is how such a small staff can put on so many premiere events,” Doher said. “ dictates the quality of the organization.”
And Joe is a key part of making the events successful. As a volunteer, he’s part of the “Game Operations Committee” and works on the sideline during the bowl games helping with many duties. Among one of his most important is putting the crew together that hoists the Allstate field goal nets during kicks.
The owner of Berkshire Hathaway Results Realty says it was his friends who got him involved with Florida Citrus Sports in the first place.
“I really like the quality of the people in the organization, and all they do for the community,” explains Doher. “And, it was a good fit for my business.”
Doher has worked in the real estate industry for over 23 years. He has seen firsthand how a project or an event can greatly affect a community. He describes the renovations of Camping World Stadium and the partnership with LIFT Orlando as an example of long-term growth for the area.
“To see the growth of the community, all you need to do is drive down Church Street, or Orange Avenue to the Camping World Stadium,” he added. “Look at the development and growth, and excitement that is building on that corridor. It’s positively impacting the neighborhoods.”
He adds that bringing high-caliber events to Camping World Stadium, such as Copa America, the NFL Pro Bowl and the Rolling Stones concert, creates an incredible financial impact.
“The organization has made great strides since the renovations,” says Doher. “It has put Orlando even more on the map, getting major shows and events that come to only select cities.”
Being a part of a quality organization that does so much for the community makes Doher proud.
“It’s not just about writing a check to the organization,” he said. “It’s so much more about the involvement and the difference you make in the community by being involved with the organization.”
That involvement includes the “Feast on the 50” which is a party on the field of Camping World Stadium for members and guests of all ages. It involves food, beverages and festivities, rounded out with entertainment and a fireworks show. Doher says he brings his clients to the event.
It is also an excellent networking opportunity, but it’s more than that.
“It’s more relationship building, than networking,” Doher said. “Because you are building relationships that will sustain.”
The “big leagues” is how Doher describes Florida Citrus Sports, when it comes to organizing national and international events. He makes it known that the more one gets involved, the more that person will want to stay involved.
“Its one of the most rewarding volunteer organizations I’ve ever been involved in,” he said. “It’s definitely a quality organization and it’s been a pleasure to be involved.”
