Over One Thousand Entertained At Feast On The 50
The 2006 Feast on the 50 celebration was a rousing success. Held on the field of the Florida Citrus Bowl Stadium, the giant tailgate party played host to hundreds of FCSports members and guests.
The event, featuring food from Arthur’s, Catering, Puff n’ Stuff, Port-A-Pit Bar-BQ and Cuisiners Catering, as well as drinks from Coca-Cola, ABC Fine Wine and Spirits and Budweiser, also included the Bud Zone locker room bar, a video gaming area, a kid’s zone and numerous TVs showing the first half of Auburn’s 24-17 victory over South Carolina.
Across the field, just beyond the 20-yard line, locally-based alumni clubs for schools around the country set up shop to compete against each other to see whose tent had the most school spirit. The tents were judged on numerous criteria by a panel of celebrity judges: WFTV’s Tom Terry and Jenny Dunn, the Orlando Sentinel’s George Diaz, 740 The Team’s Scott Adams, 2005-06 FCSports Rookie of the Year Emerson King, 2005-06 FCSports Chairperson of the Year Reena Bhaardwaj, 2005-06 FCSports Volunteer of the Year Darcy Nichols and 2005-06 Howard Palmer Service Award winner Pat Bishop.
The area turned out to be a real “red zone” as the Ohio State contingent brought home their second straight spirit award. Despite strong showings from Georgia, LSU, Florida and runners-up Virginia Tech (as well as ALL the alumni clubs), the Central Florida chapter of the Buckeye Nation squeaked out a resilient victory that could draw comparisons to their favorite college football team. Not to be deterred, the Florida Gators alumni – complete with stilt walker and full-blown Gator mascot – took home first place in the Alumni Trivia competition, dispatching their small army of orange-and-blue soldiers throughout the alumni area to answer a list of school-related questions.
FCSports welcomed over 40 new members to the family during the event. One of them, Tony Lahnston, won a big screen television in a drawing held on the field. In addition, current member Lee Kuykendall won another TV in a drawing from all members.
At the end of the night, the crowd was treated to the FCSportstacular, a vibrant fireworks show over the north end zone that sent everyone home happy.
Special thanks are owed to all event sponsors and caterers, celebrity judges, all volunteers, all alumni clubs, and most importantly, to all the members of Florida Citrus Sports. It is your continued dedication and enthusiasm that make events like Feast on the 50 possible and successful.
