Joe Doher Earns FCSports Rookie of the Year Award
Joe Doher, Broker-Owner of Prudential Results Realty, received the Rookie of the Year Award presented at Florida Citrus Sports’ 2014 Member Celebration.
Doher had high expectations for Florida Citrus Sports (FCSports) before he joined the organization in 2013. After he was introduced to the organization by a co-worker who was a member back in the 80s, he quickly became intrigued when he heard all that FCSports does in the Orlando community.
When his first-year membership was coming to an end, Doher was surprised to learn he earned the Rookie of the Year Award. This particular award honors a new member, who in his or her first year with FCSports, and has jumped in full-stream as a volunteer and contributor to the organization.
“Receiving the award taught me that there’s so much more I can do within the organization, which leaves me wanting to experience more for many, many years,” said Doher.
Doher jumped right into the organization and served on three committees– the Team Selection Committee, the Team Support Committee and the Feast on the 50 Committee. In addition to volunteering on these committees, Doher also worked game day operations with the teams at the Florida Blue Florida Classic, the Russell Athletic Bowl and the Capital One Bowl. During the Russell Athletic Bowl and Capital One Bowl, Doher hauled water, stocked the locker rooms and shuttled team officials around the stadium.
“Working my first few bowl games was overwhelming, yet exciting and educational,” said Doher. “The veterans on the team support committee helped guide me as a new guy and made the whole experience incredible.”
Doher’s membership renewal for the 2014-15 bowl season was not only influenced by his passion for sports and his desire to help others, but also his strong relationship with the FCSports staff and members. Doher’s hope is that current FCSports members, including himself, keep striving to become more involved each year.
“As members, we need to get the word out about how incredible this organization really is, especially with our new state-of-the-art facility,” said Doher.
One of Doher’s goals for this upcoming season is to spread word of FCSports and their impact on the community to others who will possibly join the organization.
Favorite thing about FCSports: The whole environment including the staff, experiences and the opportunities the organization brings to a small business owner like me.
Favorite bowl/event memory: Every experience and every function was more enjoyable than the last as you get to know the members and the staff more. But the surprise of being Rookie of the Year was also incredible.
Advice to current members: Each member should try to bring one new member to the organization to promote the organization and help it grow substantially.
Advice to new members: Definitely get involved on the committee level and be engaged in all the events Florida Citrus Sports puts on, including scouting.
