It’s an exciting time in the West Lakes, and if you’ve visited the area lately, you’ve no doubt noticed the flurry of activity around Camping World Stadium.
In addition to the spectacular renovation of Lake Lorna Doone Park — set to reopen later this spring — and continued development throughout the bustling West Lakes footprint, the stadium at the heart of it all is also in the midst of a significant construction project to upgrade several features in the building and throughout the surrounding campus.
“When we originally did the renovation to what’s now called Camping World Stadium, the original proposal was $230, $240 million, and we ended up doing about $207 million, so there were some things we weren’t able to accomplish,” City of Orlando mayor Buddy Dyer told WKMG in late 2019 after city commissioners voted to select construction firm Barton Malow to complete the project.
“So we’re coming back,” Dyer continued. “The county has allocated $60 million additional through the Tourist Development Tax, so we’ll do some things like closing in the northern end zone … we’ll enhance the club space, [and] there are always things with technology that you have to enhance just about every year. Then, of course, some of the parking areas — we will improve them.”
In addition to connecting the north end of the lower bowl, workers will modernize restrooms and concession areas in the upper level of Camping World Stadium and add a new mezzanine club level, providing a wider variety of premium seating options. Exterior improvements will start in the parking lots and will include improved wayfinding throughout the facility.
“We’re excited about the future of the venue and getting the opportunity to bring more events to Central Florida,” Florida Citrus Sports CEO Steve Hogan told the Orlando Sentinel last year, noting in a separate interview with Orlando Business Journal that this round of upgrades, “make this building much more complete and that much more competitive on a worldwide scale.”
Events at Camping World Stadium will continue throughout the renovation, with the stadium set to host both AMA Supercross and Monster Jam events over the next month.
As additional premium options are added, new Florida Citrus Sports membership options will become available, with enhanced premium packages available starting 2022. Suite rentals and other premium opportunities at Camping World Stadium remain available on a single-game or year-round basis.
