Notre Dame and Florida State Selected for Champs Sports Bowl

On behalf of its Selection Committee, Florida Citrus Sports’ Chairman Michel Champagne and CEO Steve Hogan announced today that the South Carolina Gamecocks and Nebraska Cornhuskers have been selected to play in the 2012 Capital One Bowl.  The New Year’s classic will kick off at 1:00 p.m. on January 2nd from Florida Citrus Bowl Stadium in Orlando and will be televised nationally by ESPN. Michigan State at Iowa is the Capital One Bowl Game of the Week

The Iowa Hawkeyes host No. 17 Michigan State (4-1, 7-2) in Iowa City for their final home game of the season this Saturday. Last year’s 37-6 victory by the Hawkeyes ended the Spartan’s unbeaten streak. With just two games left after this weekend, both teams enter the game with a chance to appear in the Big Ten conference championship game.

The No. 7 Arkansas Razorbacks (7-1, 5-1 SEC) and the No. 9 South Carolina Gamecocks (7-1, 3-1 SEC) are barely trailing the lead in the Southeastern Conference with both teams suffering only one loss in conference play this season. Georgia vs. Florida is the Capital One Bowl Game of the Week

The No. 22 Georgia Bulldogs (5-2, 4-1 SEC) and the Florida Gators (4-3, 2-3 SEC) face off in Jacksonville this weekend for one of college football’s most stories rivalries. The rivalry began 1915 and is one of few such games still played at a neutral-site. The Gators hold a three-game winning streak over the Dawgs, including a 34-31 victory last year in the series’ first overtime game when Chas Henry drilled a 37-yard field goal as time expired.

The No. 8 Nebraska Cornhuskers make their Big Ten debut this Saturday in a long-overdue matchup against the No. 7 Wisconsin Badgers.
