Jones vs. Evans Game Returns to Camping World Stadium for Inaugural Legacy Classic
Newly-formed series will put spotlight on local high school and neighboring communities
The Jones High School Tigers (3-0) will play host to the Evans High School Trojans (2-1) in the inaugural “Legacy Classic” Thursday night at Camping World Stadium. The game, presented by the Jones High School Booster Club, Florida Citrus Sports, LIFT Orlando, and CNL, is set to kick off at 7:00 p.m. with gates opening at 6:00 p.m.
Tickets for the game are $6 and can be purchased at both schools as well as at the South Box Office of Camping World Stadium on Thursday beginning at 6 p.m.
“The opportunity to bring the game back to a reconstructed Camping World Stadium puts the students from our community in the spotlight while also reviving this tradition-rich rivalry,” said Jones High School Principal Roderick Waldon.
The Legacy Classic is a newly-formed annual series hosted by Jones High School at Camping World Stadium. The stadium sits in the heart of the West Lakes communities, where many of Jones students and families reside.
“We’re excited to give these teams a platform at the center of the West Lakes neighborhoods in the reconstructed Camping World Stadium,” said Florida Citrus Sports CEO Steve Hogan. “We’re looking forward to making this series a bigtime game for Jones High School and for the entire community.”
The West Lakes communities consist of the six core neighborhoods surrounding Camping World Stadium: Clear Lake, Rock Lake, Spring Lake Manor, Lake Lorna Doone, Lake Sunset/Luola Terrace and Bunche Manor. The West Lakes communities were brought together through the efforts of LIFT Orlando, a nonprofit organization comprised of business leaders partnering with residents to accelerate community transformation. Florida Citrus Sports and CNL are among the founding partners of LIFT Orlando.
The Jones-Evans high school rivalry returns to the premier Orlando venue for the first time since the 2009 meeting where Evans topped Jones, 18-6. Evans holds a 34-9 advantage in the all-time series but the two programs have split the past six meetings dating back to 2005. Last season, in the rivalry’s first meeting since the 2009 game, Jones won at Evans, 19-7.
Both schools are off to good starts this season. Jones brings an undefeated record into the game, having outscored its opponents 152-6. Evans sports a 2-1 record after dropping its game against Oak Ridge last week.
During the game, Jones High School will honor its 1960 and 1961 football teams, which were the first in school history to finish the season undefeated.
