Orlando Citrus Bowl Celebrates “Forward Progress To The 50

On Wednesday, June 4, Orlando officials, construction workers and the Florida Citrus Sports staff celebrated the latest construction milestone for Orlando Citrus Bowl reconstruction, as the installation of precast conrete for the new lower bowl has reached the halfway point.

The “Forward Progress To the 50” event featured brief remarks from Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs and FCSports CEO Steve Hogan. Staff and construction workers in attendance were also invited to sign a piece of the new concrete before it was put in place as part of the lower bowl.

Reconstruction began in late January with demolition of the previous lower bowl. The entire existing structure was razed over the course of 26 days, leaving only the modern upper decks that were added in the 1990s.

In the ensuing three months, construction workers have worked diligently to install the Citrus Bowl’s brand-new lower bowl. This week’s ceremony is a brief celebration of one of the many milestones that have come and gone as the project presses forward toward being “event-ready” in November for the Florida Blue Florida Classic and Orlando’s bowl games.
