Simon Dover Named New Florida Citrus Sports Chief Financial Officer

Simon Dover has been named Chief Financial Officer at Florida Citrus Sports. A former finance executive in the athletic departments at West Virginia University, Rice University and Oakland University, Dover began his new role in Orlando on August 28.

Dover replaces Scott Herring, retiring after nine years in the position.

Dover most recently served six years as Executive Associate Athletics Director for Business Operations and Chief Financial Officer at West Virginia University. With the Mountaineers, Dover directed the overall management and operations of the business office, including payroll and benefits, travel, accounts payable, procurement, and budget management.

“We are excited to bring Simon to our team, ” Florida Citrus Sports Chief Executive Officer Steve Hogan said. “His 30-plus years of experience will be crucial to the future of Florida Citrus Sports, our events and Camping World Stadium.”

Before his time at West Virginia, Dover spent nearly three years at Rice University as a Senior Associate Athletic Director and Chief Operating Officer. In his role, he oversaw finances for all athletic teams. He managed financial planning, budget development, human resources and contracts for the Owls.

Before Rice, Dover spent sixteen years at his alma mater, Oakland University, becoming senior associate athletic director in 2011. He oversaw financial affairs for the Golden Grizzlies athletic department. He created its first strategic plan and served as administrator for 16 of the 18 sports.

Dover also spent seven years with Palace Sports and Entertainment, assisting the Detroit Pistons and the Palace of Auburn Hills with financial affairs. Before working in sports, Dover was a staff accountant with Edwards, Koshiw & Associates in Troy, Mich., from 1988 to 1991.

Dover is a native of Rochester, Mich., who graduated from Oakland with a bachelor’s degree in accounting in 1988. Dover completed his master’s degree in finance at Walsh College in 1998.

He and his wife, Janice, have two children, Harrison and Haley.
