Spurrier Starts Speaker Series

Legendary head ‘ball coach Steve Spurrier was the first guest of the 2007-08 FCSports Speaker Series, appearing for an evening engagement at the Orlando Science Center on June 13. The event, sponsored by the law firm of Lowndes, Drosdick, Doster, Kantor & Reed, P.A., was attended by over 250 FCSports members and guests.

After a cocktail hour featuring heavy hors d’oeuvres and an open bar, attendees were ushered into the Science Center’s “Dino Digs” area. There, the South Carolina head coach and recent University of Florida Ring of Honor inductee sat down for a Q&A session hosted by Sun Sports’ Whit Watson.

During the program Spurrier answered a variety of questions, including many submitted through FCSports.com. Much of the talk centered around his tenure as head coach of the Gators from 1990-2001, a period that saw the team win six SEC championships and the 1996 national championship. However, when conversation turned to the season ahead, Spurrier spoke about his current team at South Carolina and the Gamecocks’ prospects for fall.

The event was a tremendous success and closed with the coach tossing out a few autographed items to lucky fans in attendance. In addition to an entertaining night with a college football luminary, many of the first-time guests were given a first glimpse at what being an FCSports member is all about.
