Twelve Members To Be Recognized As 2016-17 Volunteers Of The Year
Florida Citrus Sports has selected 12 members to recognize as 2016-17 Volunteers of the Year. John Byrnes, Milton Carroll, Shawn Cavalieri, Tracy Cheek, Dr. Brian Coleman, Will Fulghom, John Gyllin, Melissa Myers, Amy Pryor, Reg Shrigley, Stew Smith and Rob Yacabucci stood out for their superlative efforts this past season. The organization will honor these individuals during the Member Celebration event on May 18.
John Byrnes (Southeastern Clinical Research) has been a member of Florida Citrus Sports for 31 years. He has dedicated his time and resources for decades to help organize the physicians and physician assistants who provide physicals for the children during the Florida Citrus Sports Summer Camps.
For nearly nine years, Milton Carroll has been involved with Florida Citrus Sports. A member of the board of directors, Milton also serves as part of the leadership for the Team Selection Committee, helping to coordinate game requests and assignments for members on the road during football season. Additionally, he assists the participating teams with operational needs as part of the Team Support Committee.
Also a member for almost nine years, Shawn Cavalieri has dedicated his time by serving on the Associate Board, Media Relations, Team Selection, and Team Hospitality Committees over the years. Notably, Shawn has served as a Team Host during the past two seasons, most recently with West Virginia. As a team host, Shawn contributes an immeasurable amount of time during bowl week making sure the student-athletes, support staff, coaches and their families enjoy a memorable and first class experience. Shawn has gone out of his way to support Florida Citrus Sports events, including arranging travel to support the ACC Championship Game and the NFL Pro Bowl in addition to bowl week.
Tracy Cheek (Billings, Morgan & Boatwright, LLC) and Melissa Myers both joined Florida Citrus Sports last year and wasted little time getting involved in the organization. Tracy spent countless hours helping to organize and prep the auction items for Feast on the 50 while Melissa was a huge supporter of the event, purchasing numerous items with the proceeds going to the Florida Citrus Sports Foundation. When it was announced that Florida Citrus Sports would be partnering with the ACC to host their Championship Football Game at Camping World Stadium, extra help was needed to assist the school mascots. Both Tracy and Melissa stepped in and served as a mascot handler during the week, working from sunrise to sunset escorting them to all official functions and supporting them on game day. Melissa also is a member of the Team Selection Committee.
Dr. Brian Coleman (Omega Dental Group) has been involved with Florida Citrus Sports for 17 years and has referred countless new members to the organization. Dr. Coleman also serves on the board of directors and is part of the leadership for the Team Selection Committee, coordinating game requests and assignments. He also volunteers his time as part of the Team Support Committee on gameday where he assists the participating teams and coaches with any questions or issues that may arise. In addition, Omega Dental Group sponsors the annual Florida Blue Florida Classic VIP kickoff reception.
Will Fulghom (Sysco Central Florida) has been a Florida Citrus Sports member for almost five years. Through his donation of fruits and vegetables to the Florida Citrus Sports Summer Camp and for participating bowl teams, FCSports is able to make sure the children and teams are properly nourished.
As Executive Director for the Foundation at Seminole State College, John Gyllin knows and works with a wide variety of business and community leaders throughout Central Florida. If you’ve met John, you’ll know Florida Citrus Sports is near and dear to his heart and top of mind in all conversations. As a result of his passion for our organization, John continues to be a huge resource with significant membership and sponsorship referrals. Gyllin also serves on the Team Selection Committee.
Amy Pryor (Puff ‘n Stuff) joined Florida Citrus Sports in 2010 and has been a vital asset to many committees during her time here. She currently serves on the associate board of directors and is a member of the Team Selection, Media Relations and Team Hospitality Committees. During bowl week, she is a staple at the media and team hotels and in the press box. For the past two years, her company has provided the media lunch at the Day for Kids event during bowl week.
Reg Shrigley (RUTT, Inc.) has been invaluable to Florida Citrus Sports for over three decades and counting. Reg has put Florida Citrus Sports and the participating bowl teams’ needs ahead of his own year after year as a team host to make sure their experience in Orlando is top-notch. In addition, Reg is also a member of the Team Selection Committee.
Over the years, the Florida Citrus Parade has been successful in large part due to Stew Smith’s (Orlando Dodge) generosity. As general manager of the dealership, Smith has donated trucks as needed to help move the parade floats to and from the float build at the convention center to the parade route downtown and storage areas. Additionally, Smith has also graciously serviced the FCSports utility van and GEM car throughout the year.
After serving in a leadership role for our volunteer efforts for several years, Rob Yacabucci (Lockheed Martin) became the Volunteer Coordinator for all events including both bowl games and the Camping World Kickoff. A mainstay at all organization events, the nine-year member takes responsibility for instructing, placing, feeding and managing over 300 volunteers who are tasked making sure our fans enjoyed a first-class experience at the stadium. Yacabucci also serves on the associate board of directors.
Florida Citrus Sports is grateful to all of our volunteers and members for their support throughout the year and we look forward to honoring these special members who have done so much for us this past season.
