A strange thing happened after last year’s Rose Bowl game. Thousands of fans from the losing side didn’t want to leave. That’s not routine at 123 of the 124 NCAA Football Subdivision schools. Players and coaches from Nebraska and South Carolina met at DisneyQuest for Day for Kids, a charity event with the Florida Citrus Sports Foundation. The Cornhuskers and Gamecocks took time out of their Capital One Bowl preparations to spend some time with disadvantaged children from around Central Florida.

On behalf of its Selection Committee, Florida Citrus Sports’ Chairman Michel Champagne and CEO Steve Hogan announced today that the South Carolina Gamecocks and Nebraska Cornhuskers have been selected to play in the 2012 Capital One Bowl. The New Year’s classic will kick off at 1:00 p.m. on January 2nd from Florida Citrus Bowl Stadium in Orlando and will be televised nationally by ESPN. Legendary head ‘ball coach Steve Spurrier was the first guest of the 2007-08 FCSports Speaker Series, appearing for an evening engagement at the Orlando Science Center on June 13.
